Using multiple screenshots or videos in the same clip

Render videos where the screen contents on the 3D device changes during the animation

This tutorial has been updated the to latest design of Rotato

Somtimes you want to show more than one design in the same Rotato video clip. Maybe you're making a tutorial, or maybe a fun animation where the screen content changes when the phone's screen is not facing the viewer for a short second.

There's a couple of ways you can do this in Rotato.

Use a video

The most flexible way to do this is to get all your screens into a video. Many Rotato users make video recordings of their prototypes or apps and add those videos to the device in Rotato. You can then fine-tune the animation movements based on what happens in the video.

Render again

Another popular way is to render exactly the same video multiple times. It would work something like this

  1. Create the animation you want, without thinking about the screen contents
  2. Add the first screenshot or video
  3. Render the entire video
  4. Add the second screenshot or video
  5. Render the entire video
  6. Add both videos to a video editing app like iMovie or After Effects and cut between them.

Since the videos are 100% identical aside from the screen contents, every cut will be a match cut and you can cut between them as you wish.

Lastly, we're working on adding screen contents to the timeline so you'll have a third way to do this when that launches. We don't currently have a date for this feature launch.
