Duplicate device

Duplicate a device when you want another copy with the same starting appearance and animation.

Make a copy

1. Select the device in the canvas or the device buttons at the top of the sidebar.
2. Choose Duplicate Device in its inspector, or press Command–D.
3. Move the copy with its transform handles or Position & Scale fields.
4. Replace its screen image in Screen.

Duplication copies the device's timeline state as well as its appearance. Expand the copied device's tracks before changing its movement, screen contents, or lid animation.

Copy while dragging

1. Select the device so its transform handles appear.
2. Hold Option and hover over a movement arrow. The arrow turns yellow and the pointer shows the copy cursor.
3. Drag the arrow to create and move a copy along that axis, then release.

The original stays in place. Holding Option and clicking without dragging does not create a copy. Press Command–Z to undo the duplicate and its movement together.

Hovering a rotation ring also turns it yellow, but Option-drag duplication applies only to movement arrows.

Place a copy beside the original

Use Control–Command–Arrow to duplicate in a direction. Check the spacing in the canvas and adjust it for your composition.

For a different model, use Replace Device after duplication.
