Rendering an animation as a PNG sequence

A PNG sequence saves one image per movie frame. It is useful when another editor needs individual frames or when you want lossless images with alpha.

Render the frames

1. Prepare and preview the timeline.
2. Choose Transparent for the background if you need alpha.
3. Click Render Movie and select PNG Sequence.
4. Set the resolution and frame rate.
5. Choose a new destination folder and render.

Keep the frame names in order and use a separate folder for each render. Record the frame rate; the images alone do not tell another editor how quickly to play them.

Import into an editor

Import the first frame as an image sequence instead of importing every file as a separate still. See PNG sequences in After Effects.

PNG frames do not contain audio. Add the soundtrack separately in your destination editor.
