Select and edit the right keyframes

Use the playhead and edge diamonds to make predictable edits.

The playhead determines the scene you see. In Manual keyframe writing, the default, click a keyframe to choose which animation endpoint your changes affect.

Edit one endpoint

Click an animation's start or end diamond. The playhead jumps to that endpoint, and changes affect that track's selected keyframe. For example, select the camera's ending diamond before adjusting the final camera angle.

The selected camera, movement, or lid/fold row turns blue, and the sidebar shows the controls for that track. Selecting a camera keyframe also clears device selection so you can move the camera straight away. A one-time hint confirms that your camera changes will update the selected keyframe.

Click the animation block itself to adjust timing and easing. Use the sidebar's back button to leave keyframe editing and clear its selection.

Moving the playhead away deselects the keyframe. Click it again before making another change to the animation.

Adding a camera, device movement, fold/lid, screen scroll, or focus blur animation selects its final keyframe and moves the playhead there. You can author the ending state immediately. This replaces earlier keyframe selections even when Shift is held.

Adjust both endpoints

Click one diamond, then hold Shift while clicking the other. Changes now adjust both selected endpoints, preserving the motion between them.

Camera, device movement, and fold tracks also keep neighboring held values together so a pause stays still.

Try a change without saving it to the animation

With no keyframe selected, moving the camera or editing an animated value previews the change without changing its saved keyframes. Scrub or play to return to the saved animation. The first camera move without a selected keyframe shows a reminder pointing to the nearest camera diamond.

Properties without animation can still be changed normally.

Use automatic writing

Open Rotato → Settings → Animation and set Keyframe writing to Automatic. The playhead then chooses the endpoints for you: an edge edits that endpoint, and editing inside a move adjusts its surrounding endpoints together. Switch back to Manual when you want to choose keyframes by clicking them.

Check before continuing

Scrub across the block, its neighboring gap, and the next block. The canvas shows the movie at each time. Use Undo to compare your saved edits.
