Blend your mockup into its background
Soften the edges of a hero image with Fade
Make a close-up device image blend into a page without a hard crop at the bottom. Fade softens your scene into its chosen background. Match that background to your page for a seamless edge.
Start with a preset
- Open Background in the sidebar and choose your background.
- Turn on Fade.
- Choose A little, Just enough, or A lot. Start with Just enough for a soft lower edge.
- Click the settings icon, or choose Custom, to open the Fade sidebar.
Fade is off by default. Turning it off keeps your settings for next time. Saving your document preserves them.
Shape the area
In Area, drag inside the oval to move it. The center snaps to the middle and thirds of the canvas. Hold Shift to constrain movement to one axis. Portrait canvases keep the diagram compact, with space on either side.
- Drag the solid oval edge to adjust feathering.
- Drag the dotted outer edge to resize the area.
- Drag the small ring around the center to change direction, or closer to and farther from the center to change the fade length. Hold Shift to snap the angle in 15-degree steps.
Use the X, Y, and Angle fields for exact placement. Gradient controls where fading starts, how long it lasts, and the edge softness. Edges controls the area's width, height, and maximum blur.
Check the edge
Look at the whole composition after changing its framing or format. Adjust the area until the subject has disappeared into the background before reaching the crop. A bright screen may need a stronger fade than a dark one.
Fade blends into the actual scene background, including a color or image. It does not turn an opaque background transparent. The effect also applies to exported images and movies.
